MURRAY HILL, N.J. (AP) - Medical device maker CR Bard Inc. said Tuesday its first-quarter profit rose 25 percent on a surge in sales.The company earned $101.6 million, or 95 cents a share, compared with profit of $81.1 million, or 76 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Sales for the quarter rose 13 percent to $528.2 million from $465.9 million.The company sells vascular, urology and oncology equipment and devices.Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected earnings of 91 cents per share on revenue of $523.1 million.Shares of CR Bard fell 7 cents to close at $82.21 on the New York Stock Exchange.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
