(Adds factors limiting growth, Europe sales figure)

PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Air Liquide said first quarter sales were 2.791 bln eur, up 0.6 pct from a year earlier and up 5.2 pct on a comparable basis, with a strong rise in Asia as the key factor in the comparable growth.

It confirmed its full-year target of a double-digit rise in net profit.

Sales recovered slightly in Europe, while growth softened in North America.

The company's main business, industrial gases and services, had nearly flat sales of 2.452 bln eur, against 2.445 bln a year earlier.

Among factors that held sales growth down were the strong euro, which had a negative impact of 3.7 pct, and lower gas prices, which had a negative impact of 0.9 pct.

Europe, which accounts for around half of the company's total revenue, had first quarter sales of 1.351 bln, up 3.5 pct, with sales on a comparable basis up 4.1 pct.
