Japanese govt keeps assessment that 'economy recovering' unchanged for Jan

TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - The government has left its assessment of the economy

unchanged for this month, saying that the recovery continues, albeit with some

weakness in consumer spending.

term, after edging up to 2.3 pct in December, due to higher cost of importing

foodstuff from China, said an economist at JPMorgan Chase.

Italy govt rules out hiking pension age to 60, plans talks with trade unions

PARIS (AFX) - A consortium of Alstom and Spanish utility Iberdrola is a

strong contender to win a modernisation contract for Mexico's Laguna Verde

HONG KONG (XFN-ASIA) - The composite consumer price index (CPI) in December

was up 2.3 pct from a year earlier, compared with a 2.2 pct increase in

November, the government said.
