LONDON (AFP) –
London's leading stock market climbed at the start of trading on Monday after Tokyo closed at its highest level for almost eight weeks.
The FTSE 100 index rose 0.47 percent to 5,221.07 points.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange's benchmark Nikkei-225 index gained 0.41 percent to 10,183.47 points, the best finish since October 27, lifted by a positive lead from Wall Street and upbeat domestic trade data, dealers said.
US stocks had swung higher on Friday as the market reacted to a batch of favourable earning reports that offset concerns about the pace of the economic recovery.
