Car production surges in South Korea
According to the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA), South Korea’s share of the global car market grew to an all-time high of 5.7% in 2009.
The KAMA said South Korea produced a total of 3.513 million vehicles last year - 5.7% of the 61.295 million total worldwide.

US consumer borrowing rises for first time in a year
The Federal Reserve has announced borrowing by American consumers grew for the first time in a year in January.
According to the central bank, consumer credit rose 2.4% or $5 billion (£3.3 billion) compared with the previous month to a total of $2.45 trillion.

New mortgage lending falls away
The British Bankers’ Association (BBA) has reported that mortgage lending in January was “relatively weak”, as adverse weather conditions and an inflated December market impacted on house sales.
Last month, BBA members approved 35,000 loans to home buyers, down from 46,000 in December but up 37.8% on a year earlier.

Rise in house purchase mortgage deals
Home buyers with a zero to 40% deposit currently have 1,798 mortgage deals to choose from, according to Moneyfacts.co.uk.

Record numbers seek debt advice
Record numbers of consumers are turning to the Citizens Advice Bureaux for help with financial problems.
The charity said that since the start of the recession it has helped over 3.25 million people with 11 million money problems, including problems with debt, benefits, employment, and housing.
